Russia: ‘No alternative’ to Minsk accords on Ukraine, says Lavrov

Russian Federation, Moscow
November 18, 2019 at 17:03 GMT +00:00 · Published

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented on the upcoming Normandy Format summit at a press conference in Moscow on Monday, saying that Germany and France should make clear to Ukraine that the Minsk agreements are the only way forward in the Donbass conflict.

"We hope that they [Paris and Berlin] will use their relations with official Kiev in order to make them aware that there is no alternative to the full implementation of the Minsk agreements,” Lavrov said at a news conference following bilateral talks with his Belarusian counterpart Vladimir Makei.

"Such signals from Paris and Berlin are all the more important as we hear contradictory messages from the administration of President Zelenskiy and members of the Ukrainian government, including that there will be no amnesty, as is set out in the Minsk agreements, and that there will be no direct contacts between Kiev and Donetsk and Luhansk,” added Lavrov.

The Normandy Four summit between the leaders of France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine is set to take place in Paris on Dec 9.
