Iran's Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the country repelled the enemy in the fields of security, military and political warfare at a speech in Tehran on Wednesday.

"The recent actions were security issues. We have repelled the enemy in various areas and by God's grace, we will also definitely repel the enemy in an economic war," said Khamenei.

The speech comes as dozens of demonstrators were believed to have been killed in violent protests triggered by the announcement of fuel price hikes.

Khamenei went on to urge Iranians to build a stronger economy despite international sanctions.

"As I understand, the sanctions will be in place for a long time. In order to save the country's economy, we should not rely on lifting sanctions. The sanctions will continue," said Khamenei.
