Austrian two-time Olympic Judo champion Peter Seisenbacher pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting several women at the time they were minors as his trial began in Vienna on Monday.

According to state prosecutors, the alleged abuses took place between 1999 and 2004 when the 59-year-old was coaching those girls.

In 2014, several women filed criminal complaints against Seisenbacher for alleged sexual misconduct against them when they were still minors or children. Two years later, he was formally indicted by the Vienna Prosecutor's Office for statutory rape of two girls and for attempted sexual assault of one girl, who at the time were between 11 and 16 years old.

Seisenbacher however managed to flee the country and was able to remain on the run for half a year before being arrested in Kiev in 2017 and handed over to Austria on September 12th, 2019.

If found guilty, Seisenbacher could face a prison term of up to 10 years.
