Spain: Greenpeace turns 'Madrid Green Capital' into 'Madrid Grey Capital'

Spain, Madrid
December 2, 2019 at 13:18 GMT -00:00 · Published

Greenpeace activists changed a topiary sign from 'Madrid Green Capital' to 'Madrid Grey Capital' by covering some of the bushes with a banner at the Puerta de Alcala in Madrid on Monday.

The stunt was carried out during the first day of the COP25 Climate Summit, which is being held in the Spanish capital after original host city Santiago backed out due to the ongoing unrest in Chile.

With such actions, the environmental pressure group seeks to denounce the "inaction" of the Madrid City Council regarding climate change, and to point out that the current mayor Jose Luis Martinez Almeida has vowed to reverse the Madrid Central project to reduce emissions in the city center, as well as closing several bike lanes.
