Israeli settler Konstantin Kotov was on trial at the State Security Court in Amman on Monday, on charges of entering "Jordanian territories illegally" and possession of drugs.

Head of the State Security Court (SSC) Judge Colonel Ali Mubaideen explained during the public hearing that Kotov was arrested on October 29, as he was crossing the border between Israel and Jordan, and was consequently "dealt with according to the rules of engagement in force in the Jordanian forces, by the guards of the Imam Ali Battalion within the duty station."

Kotov is reported to have admitted to entering the country illegally but pleaded not guilty for charges of possession of drugs.

Lawyer Musa Al-Abdallat said that this trial represents "a change in the Jordanian official position" towards Israel.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement that they are following the situation, and are in touch with Jordanian authorities, as well as Kotov and his family.
