Chile, Punta Arenas

Over 30 family members of the crashed military plane's crew and passengers, which went missing on Monday, flew from Santiago to Punta Arenas on Friday to provide DNA samples to identify victims whose remains have been found.

Footage shows military planes unloading remains of wrecked plane at the Chabunco Air Base in Punta Arenas, and planes arriving with the victims' relatives, who were later transported by buses.

"At first, we were dealing with missing people, today we have already received some biological remains on which we are working with the legal medical service in coordination both in Santiago and in Punta Arenas, with expert professionals in the identification of each of the occupants," explained Eugenio Campos of the Regional Prosecutor's Office of Magellan.

He added that all factors will be investigated. "The serial number, the conditions of the aircraft, whether we had any call of alert or not, the maintenance issues, which conditions it presented, whether there were any failures or not. Everything is necessary and for that purpose, the international requirements also apply."

The Chilean Hercules C-130 military aircraft, which took off at 16:55 local time (19:55 GMT) on Monday, was expected to land at 19:17 (22:17 GMT) at the Chilean Antarctic military base and went missing after it completed over a half of the flight.
