India: Congress leaders hold rally against BJP govt. policies in Delhi

India, New Delhi
December 14, 2019 at 22:46 GMT +00:00 · Published

Hundreds of people joined a 'Bharat Bachao' ('Save India') rally held by senior leaders of the Indian National Congress (INC; Congress Party or Congress) at New Delhi's Ramlila Ground (Ramlila Maidan) on Saturday, against policies of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.

Addressing the rally, INC President Sonia Gandhi said that "the whole country is saying 'sabka saath, sabka vikas' ['together with all, development for all' - the slogan coined by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi], whereas the development today is so bad."

Commenting on the state of India's economy, General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for Eastern Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi said that "today after six years of the BJP rule, instead of employment, jobs are being lost instead of employment."

Anity Arya, a local leader from Uttar Pradesh, argued that the BJP government "[is] dividing the nation on the basis of religion," which she said "is not fair for the Constitution."
