Russia: Putin holds first meeting with Mishustin’s government

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and the new government in Moscow on Tuesday.

Putin congratulated the ministers on their appointment to the government and wished them success for the future.

"Not only you yourself are interested in being successful, not only those who are here today, but also the whole country," said Putin.

"The main target here is, of course, the raising of the well-being of the nation, strengthening of our statehood and positions of Russia on the international arena. These are all goals that can be achieved," the president added.

Prime Minister Mishustin on his part thanked Putin for the trust he has shown and said his government would do its everything to achieve the goals.

Mishustin's government consists of nine deputy prime ministers and 20 ministers, including Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and Energy Minister Alexander Novak, who all keep their ministerial positions in the new government.

Among the new cabinet members are Health Minister Mikhail Murashko, Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin and Minister of Economic Development Maksim Reshetnikov, who replace Veronika Skvortsova, Pavel Kolobkov and Maxim Oreshkin, respectively.
