UK: Londoners share thoughts as Brexit hour nears

United Kingdom, London
January 31, 2020 at 09:53 GMT -00:00 · Published

As the UK ran out its final hours as a member of the European Union, Londoners shared their thoughts on Brexit and its future implications for the country on Friday.

London's business centre was grappling with the uncertainties surrounding the UK's exit from the EU with some projecting its possible trajectory in the coming days and years.

"I think part of it going to be wait-and-see approach… realistically there are a lot of unknowns and a lot of finding-outs to be done," said a London resident who said his work as an employee in a global insurance company could be affected by visa and travel disruptions.

The possible disruptions and yet a will for moving on remained forward and centre for others.

"I think that there will be pragmatic changes that hopefully will work out eventually. I think it is not going to be too big an impact," said another Londoner whose positive outlook was echoed by others.

The UK joined the European Economic Community in 1973 and after 47 years it is the first member state to withdraw from the EU.

On January 9, the Brexit bill was approved at its third reading with 330 MPs voting for and 231 against in the House of Commons.
