Harley-Davidson bikers go for ride just kilometres from Libya front line

Libya, Tripoli
February 05, 2020 at 10:59 GMT +00:00 · Published

Members of an unofficial Harley-Davidson bikers club went for a ride in the central Dahra district of Tripoli, just kilometres away from Tripoli's front line.

The group, called the 'Vandals,' was filmed riding through the streets of the Libyan capital and later having a drink at 'Classic Cafe' on Monday.

In a social media post, the motorbike enthusiasts describe themselves as the “first” Harley-Davidson club in Libya. They are currently applying to become part of the official Harley-Davidson Owners Club (HOG) organisation, said one of the riders.

Another biker recalled his ride through the area saying, "It was very peaceful. We didn't expect it. All the gateways are open up. They gave us petrol, they were happy to see us, they wished us good luck on our way."

"We are not with any political side. We are just regular guys from Tripoli. We love Tripoli, we love our bikes and that's it," another Harley-Davidson biker added.

Fighting has been taking place around the Libyan capital since the Libyan National Army (LNA), which controls much of Libya's east and parts of the south, first launched an offensive to gain control of Tripoli from the UN-back Government of National Accord (GNA) in April 2019.

The conflict between the GNA and the LNA has eventually settled into a stalemate. At the Berlin conference on January 19, the leaders of many countries agreed on upholding a UN arms embargo and implementing a ceasefire in Libya.
