El Paso zoo lets scorned lovers name cockroach after their ex

The El Paso Zoo held the second edition of the 'Quit Bugging Me' event in which scorned lovers from all around the world can get some form of closure by naming a cockroach after their exes, before the staff feeds them to zoo animals over Valentine's Day weekend, as footage filmed on Friday shows.

"We've raised about 10,000 dollars (€9,232) in donations, and we've received over 16,000 names from all over the world, from Spain, Czech Republic, Australia, South Africa, all over the United States, they just keep coming in," said Sarah Borrego, the event coordinator.

"We didn't think it would be as huge as it was. It quickly went viral. This year we wanted to make it bigger, better, include more animals, get those donations in and we're glad we did it, we're having such a great time," she added.

The feeding schedule can be found online, on the zoo's 'Quit Bugging Me' website. Anonymous submissions -with or without donation - are possible until Saturday afternoon.
