Spain: Barca unveils 'emergency signing' Martin Braithwaite amid injury crisis

FC Barcelona officially unveiled their latest signing Martin Braithwaite during a press conference at the Camp Nou on Thursday, 20 February after triggering the Danish striker’s € 18m (£15.1m) release clause.

Barca were granted permission by La Liga to sign a new attacker outside of the January transfer window after France winger Ousmane Dembele was ruled out for six months with a hamstring tear.

"I'm really happy to be here. I think, as a footballer, it's one of the biggest things to be able to go to the best club in the world. So, it's really special for me and my whole family," said Braithwaite.

The recently signed player also commented on how hard he has been studying Barcelona's way of playing and how he was looking forward to being in the field. "It's about looking at each player, looking at the quality, looking at the movement, look how they pass, look how they cross, to be in the right areas all the time. That's what I've done and that's what I'll continue to do in like the next couple of days, to really study that hard. So, when it gets time to the game, I'll be in the right areas in the right moment" he stated.

Braithwaite, who has found the target just six times in 24 outings for Leganes so far this season, has signed a deal until June 2024 with a buyout clause of € 300m (£360m).

Barcelona currently sit just one point behind arch-rivals Real Madrid in the league and are due to take on Eibar and then Napoli in the coming days, before travelling to the Bernabeu on March 1.
