France: Paris imposes new time restrictions for outdoor sports amid coronavirus lockdown

Paris joggers were forced to adapt to new restrictions banning outdoor sports between 10am and 7pm (08.00 and 17.00GMT) as seen in footage from Wednesday morning.

The new measures to curb the coronavirus outbreak were announced in a statement by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and Police Chief Didier Lallement on Tuesday, after the death toll in France topped 10,000. The curfew is meant to increase social distancing by limiting the number of people on the streets during the day.

"There is a real overlapping between the people who do sports and the people who do their shopping, so it is not that bad," commented Herve, a runner who passed by.

"Getting up a little earlier to play sports, or going there a little later [in the evening] it's to protect us, so we try to do what they tell us," runner Malcolm said.

Other runners had a harder time understanding the logic behind the new ban.

"I find it [the new measures] weird because finally there's a lot more people, everyone is forced to run before 10am. Before, joggers were spread out over the course of the day, and now we're all crammed together, either running before 10am or after 7pm," said Karina.

France has over 110,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus, with 10,343 people having died after testing positive as of Wednesday, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
