Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the coronavirus situation in an online meeting with the country’s top officials on Friday in Novo-Ogaryovo.

The Russian leader noted the decline in the rate of coronavirus infections in Russia, adding that “extensive testing and strict compliance with all sanitary requirements is key to reduce risks and consolidate the successes that we have achieved in the fight against the epidemic.”

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on his part said that “the overall situation is rather stable, and we can even say that it is under control. In majority of the regions key industries have opened.”

“We managed to stabilise the situation. Now we can say with full certainty that we managed to avoid the worst-case scenario that could be seen in some metropoles of the world," concluded Sobyanin.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, Russia has recorded 326,448 COVID-19 infections and 3,249 coronavirus-related deaths.

On Friday, Russia’s coronavirus response centre announced 8,894 new infections.
