Spain: Pamplona celebrates 'Not San Fermin' without running bulls due to COVID-19

Hundreds of revellers took to the streets of Pamplona on Monday despite the fact that the San Fermin festival has been officially suspended due to the health crisis caused by the coronavirus.

Around 400 people, the maximum capacity allowed, began the "not party" in a quiet way amid strong security measures at the entrances to the town hall square.

Many bars and restaurants have decided not to open their doors to the public, and the presence of tourists is significantly lower compared to previous years.

A local resident explained that "if we want San Fermin in [year 20]21, we have to be consistent and respectful, and try not to do what should not be done," referring to the sanitary measures recommended by the authorities such as the use of masks or social distancing.

According to data from the Spanish Ministry of Health, a total of 250,545 cases of COVID-19 have been registered in the country, and the number of deaths linked to the disease have reached 28,385.
