Argentina: Messi's return bolsters Argentina's hopes of winning Copa America

All eyes were on the poster boy of Argentinean football, Lionel Messi as he along with star teammates Sergio Aguero and Nicolas Otamendi took to the field in Buenos Aires on Thursday for a training session ahead of their Copa America campaign starting next month in Brazil.

Team captain Messi looked relaxed and in good spirits in the company of fellow Argentinean players as the international media made the most of the photo-op.

Later, in a press conference attended by Argentinean striker Sergio Aguero and defender Nicolas Otamendi, the two players reiterated their resolve to win the Copa America trophy that has eluded Argentina since 1993. Otamendi said "we will try to reach the end and obviously be able to raise a cup with Argentina, which is our wish and that of the whole country."

Argentina is bolstered by the presence of their captain and Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, who only recently rejoined national duty after an eight-month absence following the World Cup in Russia.

Commenting on the importance of Messi's return, Sergio Aguero said "we all know Leo when he comes here the desire you have and the happiness that the process, is something that for us is fundamental and why you know very well that he loves the selection a lot. I think you see that they should realize that."

Despite a dismal World Cup which saw them scrape through their group, only to be knocked out by France in the last-16 stage, and recently a 3-1 loss to Venezuela in a friendly in March, Argentina will start as favourites to top group B, which also includes Colombia, Paraguay and Qatar.

The Copa America is the quadrennial international men's association football championship organized by South America's football ruling body and the 2019 edition will be played in Brazil from June 14 until July 7.
