Brazil: Ex-president Lula slams 'Trump's madness' *PARTNER CONTENT*

Brazil, Curitiba
October 04, 2019 at 22:37 GMT +00:00 · Published

Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva criticised US politics and said that his country could stop US President Donald "Trump's madness" during an interview with RT Spanish from his jail in the city of Curitiba, which was recorded on Wednesday.

Lula also condemned what he called an "external interference" from other countries into Venezuelan affairs. "For example, I do not agree with the intrusion of the United States, of Brazil, of Colombia, of whomever, trying to rule over a sovereign country. Inventing a candidate, a lie like Guaido. I am absolutely against [it]," he said.

The ex-president later touched on the Amazon fires' issue, stating that while Brazil has the sovereign power over the territory, the country needs help to overcome scientific and financial incapacities.

Lula was sentenced to 12 years in prison over charges of corruption and money laundering. He denied the charges, claiming they are politically motivated and designed to stop him from running for president. He led Brazil between 2003 and 2010.
